    THE OFFICE - 2003

Pentecostal Christian Church — Central Office Building

In a historic area of Camaguey, a four-story office building is proposed for a religious institution. In a house from the first decades of the 20th century in a state of demolition, it is proposed to save the neoclassical-style corner porch. At the other end of the building, the construction system would be of concrete blocks, with a striking curved wall on levels 3 and 4. The modern addition would be characterized by large storefronts separated 3 meters (10 feet) from the old porch. In this way a landscaped interior patio is created. Above the neoclassical portico, but separated from it as if floating in space, a cantilevered cube achieves a strong visual impact. Through this insertion into the cultural environment, communication is achieved between the ancient and the modern. The proposal creates a syntax between the old portico and the glass forms, the modern walls with cubic openings and the semi-curved walls.
